Vineyard Bric Valdiana at Giovanni Almondo

The Giovanni Almondo winery is a family estate of 18 ha. It is situated in the Roero region in Piemonte and is without a doubt one of the references of this exceptional region. Until 1980 Giovanni sold his grapes mainly in bulk. After his son Domenico graduated in the late 70s, he decided to bottle Arneis, Barbera and Nebbiolo under his own name. It is a real family business in which Domenico’s two sons have taken up the torch in the meantime. Federico has been the winemaker for a few years now. He ensures a unique, elegant style of wines. Stefano is mainly concerned with the commercial aspect of the winery. Since 2015 they have been working in a brand new cantina with the most modern technologies.

Almondo’s vineyards are located on the best plots in Montà. The northern, higher elevation vineyards (380 m) consist mainly of fossil-rich sandy soils. They form the ideal terroir for fresh, lively, mineralic white wines based on the Arneis grape. The Vigne Sparse and Bricco delle Ciliegie Roero Arneis are considered among the best from the Roero region.

The more southern, lower lying vineyards (230 – 280 m) have a more calcareous soil. They are ideal for elegant, structured red wines based on the Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes. The Bric Valdiana Roero DOCG can easily stand next to much more expensive Barolo wines.
