Barbi

Enzo Barbi started his winery in 1932 by planting vines in the family estate in Baschi ( Umbria ). The vineyard is situated at an altitude of nearly 300 metres above sea level. The soil was once an ocean floor and therefore contains fossils of seashells enriching the wines with minerals and lovely acids.  The vineyards have a southern exposure and the hillsides enjoy natural ventilation which results in a pleasant microclimate. The estate, approximately twenty hectares, comprises 50% red varieties such as the Sangiovese- Montepulciano and 50% white varieties such as the  Grechetto en Vermentino. Most of the vines in the current estate were planted between 1970 and 2007. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand avoiding the hottest hours of the day. The proximity of the winery to the vineyards allows an immediate crushing. Marina Barbi and her spouse Cesare produce approximately 300.000 bottles a year. Continuously searching  for a perfect balance between nature and technology results in outstanding wines with a strong authenticity
